Once known as Mulubinba by the Indigineous Awakabal people, Newcastle is now a vibrant metropolitan area and the second largest city in New South Wales as well as the seventh largest in Australia. Previously a city known for it's heavy steel industry it has rapidly evolved into a cultural centre which now claims the most artists per head of population within the country!
A wide variety of restaurants and bars line the waterfront near to the 6 golden sandy beaches along the Newcastle Coastline.
For those who fancy a tipple, the nearby Hunter Valley is one of Australia's famous wine regions, where grapes have been growing since the 1820s. The 150 vineyards within the Hunter Valley are well known for both their Semillon and Shiraz.
There are plenty of outdoor activities nearby, ranging from hiking and cycling at the nearby Glenrock Park to swimming at the picturesque Merewether Ocean Baths. Of course if you're fancying a shopping trip Sydney is a 2 hour drive, or direct train.
Overall Newcastle is definitely a great place to live and since moving here we haven't looked back!
